What Parent & Caregiver Coaching May Include

Depending on your family's goals, coaching sessions may include:

🗣️ Meaningful & Motivating Communication

Communication is most successful when it is meaningful and enjoyable. Coaching focuses on identifying your loved one's interests and using motivating activities, favorite toys, routines, and everyday experiences to naturally encourage communication, connection, and learning.

🏡 Communication in Everyday Routines

Communication doesn't happen only during therapy. Coaching helps families incorporate individualized communication strategies into everyday routines—including meals, play, dressing, homework, community outings, and other meaningful moments—so communication becomes a natural part of daily life.

🎯 Personalized Strategies

Every individual and family is unique. Together, we'll develop practical communication strategies that build on your loved one's strengths, interests, goals, and daily routines—creating an approach that feels natural, realistic, and sustainable for your family.

Strategies are designed to fit your family's routines—not add more work to your day.

🧠 Regulation, Engagement & Participation

Learn strategies to support attention, sensory and emotional regulation, and engagement during motivating activities. When individuals feel regulated, interested, and connected, they are better able to participate, learn, and communicate.

👨‍👩‍👧 Family & Team Collaboration

Communication is most successful when everyone works together. Coaching includes collaboration with caregivers and, when appropriate, teachers, ABA providers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other members of your loved one's support team.

Working together helps create consistency across home, school, therapy, work, and community settings.

🌱 Following Their Lead

Every coaching strategy begins by recognizing your loved one's interests, strengths, communication style, and readiness to engage. From there, you'll learn when to pause, model, wait, acknowledge, expand, and provide just enough support to encourage successful communication while fostering confidence and independence.

Yes. Coaching is collaborative. Together we'll develop practical strategies you can naturally use throughout your day. You'll have opportunities to ask questions, practice strategies, and receive feedback along the way.

Will I be expected to "be the therapist"?
No. The goal isn't to turn parents into therapists. It's to give you practical, manageable strategies that fit into everyday life.

Can other family members participate?
Absolutely. Grandparents, siblings, caregivers, and other important members of your loved one's support system are welcome to participate whenever appropriate. Consistency across communication partners often leads to greater success.

Is Parent & Caregiver Coaching available virtually?
Yes. Coaching can be provided in person or virtually, depending on your family's needs. Many communication strategies can be successfully taught through coaching sessions, allowing you to practice them in your own home and daily routines.

Do I need special materials?
No. Most strategies are designed to fit naturally into the toys, routines, and activities you already have at home. The goal is to make communication feel meaningful and easy to incorporate into everyday life.

Will coaching replace therapy?
No. Coaching complements therapy by helping families use communication strategies during everyday routines. Many families benefit from combining direct therapy with caregiver coaching, while others participate in coaching independently depending on their goals.

There is no expectation to be perfect. Parent & Caregiver Coaching is a collaborative process where we learn together. I'll provide guidance, feedback, and practical strategies that fit your family's daily routines, helping you feel confident supporting communication one step at a time.

Is Parent Coaching only for young children?
No. Parent & Caregiver Coaching can support toddlers, school-age children, teens, and adults with communication needs. Strategies are always individualized for each person's age, goals, and daily routines.
